The Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, Najib El Khadi, was elected as Chairperson of the Association of Clerks and Secretaries-General of African Parliaments (ASGAP), during the Association’s 6th Annual Meeting, held on Saturday, at the seat of the Pan-African Parliament in Midrand.
This high-level conclave provides an important platform for discussion for the secretaries-general of African parliaments from different regions of the continent, with a view to consolidating strategic coordination and promoting African integration through legislative institutions, the House of Representatives said in a press release.
The meeting provided an opportunity to examine the main strategic priorities relating to strengthening the efficiency of the Association's work and reinforcing the role of parliaments in various areas at the continental level.
These include developing the ASGAP strategic policy framework, establishing accountability mechanisms within the organization, promoting the principles of good governance and institutional transparency, and providing the Association with the means to effectively address emerging challenges.
The meeting brought together a wide range of participants, including secretaries-general of national and regional parliaments, representatives of the African Union Commission, and experts in parliamentary administration and governance.
