Morocco's Justice Minister Calls for Law to Recognize Women's Role in Building Family Assets

Morocco’s Justice Minister, Abdellatif Ouahbi, urged on Wednesday in Rabat the need to move beyond limited jurisprudence and formally enshrine in legislation the effective contribution of women to the development of family assets.

Ouahbi spoke at an international conference hosted by the Ministry, emphasizing that recognizing women’s contribution to building family property, both within the household and beyond, is one of the pillars of social justice within the family.

The minister also stated that "the Moroccan woman—whose role is essential in raising children, managing family affairs, and contributing to household assets—deserves genuine societal recognition for her productive role, which is in no way inferior to any paid work carried out outside the home.

For his part, the Crown's Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and head of the Public Prosecution Office, Hicham Balaoui, highlighted the role of jurisprudence as a vehicle for translating social and cultural transformations into the legislative sphere.

Balaoui emphasized that promoting the values of justice and fairness—through heightened awareness of rights and freedoms—helps anchor the principles of equality in the management of family life, with a view to building a cohesive and balanced family, as the fundamental unit of society.

Hailing close legal cooperation between Morocco and Egypt, the Egyptian ambassador in Rabat, Ahmed Nehad Abdellatif, praised the reforms undertaken by Morocco under the enlightened leadership of HM the King, in the legislative and legal fields, particularly those related to the Family Code and the protection of the rights of women and children.

He noted that his country places special importance on these issues with the aim of safeguarding the rights of this category and improving family conditions.
