Upon High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch chairs the Moroccan delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York.
Mr. Akhannouch is accompanied at this session by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Placed under the theme "Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights", the 80th UN General Assembly will be marked this Tuesday by the opening of its high-level segment that will bring together Heads of State and Government and several other officials.
This year, the General Assembly, which will mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the multilateral organization with a high-level meeting scheduled for Monday, will focus on a myriad of current issues, including peace, sustainable development, and the climate crisis.
On the sidelines of this major UN event, two summits on climate and a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient global economy will be held, at the initiative of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The high-level week's agenda also includes meetings on the two-state solution in the Middle East, the Sustainable Development Goals, the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, the promotion of mental health and well-being, and the elimination of nuclear weapons.
