Marruecos convirtió la industria de coches y sus componentes en eje estratégico de desarrollo

Morocco, "an automotive giant," has made the vehicle and components industry a strategic cornerstone of its development, wrote the French business daily La Tribune on Tuesday.

The paper recalls that Renault is Morocco’s leading car manufacturer, with 413,600 units produced last year at its sites in Casablanca (Dacia Sandero, Logan, Renault Kardian) and in Tangier (mainly Dacia Sandero, Jogger, Renault Express), which accounts for three-quarters of Renault vehicles assembled in the country.

" 80% percent of our production in Morocco is exported to Europe, mainly to France, Spain, Italy, and Germany,” said Christophe Dridi, Industrial Director at Dacia, quoted by the paper. La Tribune noted that last year the Moroccan-made Sandero was the best-selling car in Europe across all models.

The paper adds that the family estate Jogger, also very popular in Europe, has been produced entirely in Tangier since last June, pointing out that this plant, inaugurated in 2012 and employing 7,000 people, “is now Renault’s largest industrial site in the world.”

The French daily also reports that Stellantis’s factory in Kenitra produced 175,000 vehicles last year, including the Peugeot 208, but also electric microcars such as the Citroën Ami.

In November 2022, the group announced a €300 million investment to double its capacity to 400,000 units per year by producing new small cars starting next year. This expansion was inaugurated in mid-July.

“Morocco is a whole ecosystem with suppliers based locally,” stressed Christophe Dridi, quoted by La Tribune, noting that Renault’s local integration rate has reached 65%, while Stellantis is aiming for 75% by 2030.
